Stepping into full-time ministry in church is possibly one of the most challenging things to any one man's faith. It is not about that airy-fairy "dream job" of being in the midst of God's people, doing God's work. Rather, it is exactly when you are in the midst of Christians where you expect the most (and most is expected of you), yet are not to expect that most. Being a full-time church ministry worker is really like being a doctor on-call 24/7: Always assessing the parts of the body that are not working well and working to build it up; being on guard all the time in prayer and in supplication; yet yielding to the heartening fact that it is ultimately our all-powerful, all-wise and ever-loving God who has the largest scope in His good hands.

And it is possibly the largest lesson in the service to God in such a service of man, that we make no other choice but to train our eyes on God and not be surprised by double-minded, inconsistent and sinful humankind — and to realise that we are as fallible as the next person. By no means do we give up on each other; looking past the hurts inflicted upon us and building each other up so as to fight the true spiritual battle against the forces of darkness is what we — and I say this not just for church ministry workers, but for all Christians alike — must always keep our eyes on: That we might usher in the light of Christ and overcome the darkness in this world.
