law and g

Wrote this stream of consciousness in 2017, and found it recently which I find so pertinent especially in the recent scheme of things. I really hope it's mine, since I can't find any such quote online.

O for wisdom to live.

***

Law and grace.

What the law divides, grace unites. What the law unites, grace divides.

The law divides the righteous from the unrighteous. It springs indignation into the hearts of the righteous, and keeps them in safety. Yet grace tells the righteous that the unrighteous are not that different; that basic stream of humanness, of relationships that flow between human beings, of relationship before the Triune- prevents the righteous from scoffing at the unrighteous.

Yet the law unites by setting a common code for both the righteous and unrighteous to follow, so that there may be a common plumb line for judgment—condemnation to all who trespass and are thus deemed as unrighteous. It gives humanity the grace to live, yet cautions both the righteous and unrighteous that the two are not that different after all.

Then grace divides: when the unrighteous that breaks the law are still given a chance at redemption, and that the righteous have to give up their notion of a law-abided privilege of life—to love and lift up the unrighteous among them. The very ones that could not uphold the law.

The law gives humans the ability to live, but grace gives humans the breath of life.
